Chile Suffers Major Salmon Loss

Various news sources are reporting huge amounts of salmon loss due to algal bloom. Chile, the world's second largest exporter of farmed Atlantic Salmon is reporting loss of upwards of 90,000 tons.

The algae has been blooming due to changes in weather patterns caused by El Nino. Water temperatures are warmer and providing conditions for the bloom in algae, causing toxic and asphyxiating conditions for the salmon.  Millions of fish have been lost.
