The North Atlantic United States fishery is a protected resource, managed by a DAS monitoring program run by the U.S. government. The U.S. scallop industry is now under review to be accredited sustainable.
To insure sustainability, scallop boats are allotted a specific number of fishing days in open and protected areas determined by the U.S. government each year. The new season officially opens March 1st. Boats are out for 8-10 days per trip.
We consistently worked with scallop boat owners to improve harvesting, shucking, and cleaning techniques. The company also sells the boats’ by-catch in several local marketing areas.
