Northern Wind® Receives Prestigious Economic Impact Award
The SouthCoast Chamber of Commerce Honors the Company’s Economic Investments In 2019
New Bedford, Massachusetts – December 00, 2019 – Northern Wind, an industry leader as a direct off-loader, processor and distributor of fresh and frozen seafood was a recipient of the 2019 Economic Impact Award by the SouthCoast Chamber of Commerce. The award honors SouthCoast businesses that demonstrate a meaningful impact on the local economy. Northern Wind was recognized for their $12 Million expansion along the New Bedford waterfront.
Northern Wind is nearing the completion of its new state-of-the-art 38,000 square foot processing and freezing facility that will create 22 new permanent jobs. The new facility includes offices, coolers, along with a refrigerated dock and a 21,600 square foot holding freezer that has a 5.5 million pound holding capacity. In addition, a new high efficiency processing line was installed that can process 12 thousand pounds of scallops per-hour or 100,000 pounds per shift. The eco-friendly facility includes several green building features including a high-efficiency HVAC heating and cooling system and LED lighting system.

Northern Wind’s existing facilities are certified by the U.S. Department of Commerce Seafood Inspection Program for packing of USDC Grade A Fresh and Frozen Scallops. Northern Wind’s existing facilities are MSC certified and the most advanced in the industry and where designed to meet today’s regulatory demands.
